2008 Here I come!

Well, I've just spent my first day in 2008 and it was fun! We went to a friend's house and had a great time. She is also a homeschool and since my oldest, Ballerina Girl, needs to start this fall she let me borrow a ton of A Beka stuff to look through and use if I decide to go with A Beka. I'm very nervous about homeschooling. I went to Christian School for most of my life and loved it and am very pro-Christian school if your church has a good one but unfortunately we don't have one at all. So any helps or links anyone can give is of great appreciation.

2008 Things to accomplish:

  1. Potty train Sissy
  2. Finish the house so that we can use the stuff that we bought it for such as a yard a second bathroom a playroom/family room.
  3. Stay in better contact with friends and family

Those three things are just the tip of the iceberg of my "resolutions". With the Lord's help I will be able to accomplish all of them. Happy New Year!

Happy New Year!

A little note about A Beka curriculum: it really is a fabulous curriculum, but it isn't designed for ease of use by a homeschooler, even though many, many homeschoolers do use it. There is SO MUCH information that is in the teacher curriculum guide (a very thick binder) that you don't get with just the curriculum.

I.e.: teaching phonics. If you just buy the workbook and teacher key, you don't get all the teaching plans. You would still cover all the basics with just the workbook, but you don't get any of the lesson plans. However, if you were to go by the lesson plans, school would then take all day. So it really is a tossup.

Thanks for your visit over on my blog. I will pray for you as you begin homeschooling -- don't be afraid, it'll be great! We use A Beka -- the dvd's for my 7th grader and the regular mom-taught curriculum for my 3rd grader -- they LOVE it! It was challenging at first, but don't give up -- the best part of it all is getting to be your child's teacher and getting to spend so much time with your kids. I have always cherished the thought that I was the one who taught my kids to read...those are the kind of priceless gifts that stay in your heart forever! It's a blessing, you'll see!
